Business Development Manager – Laboratory Testing Services, Life Sciences & Toxicology
- Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland
- Scientific Holdings (Ireland)
- Full-Time
- Hybrid
- 50,000-70,000 EUR / Year
Job Description:
About the role
Scientific Holdings is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive sales of laboratory testing services delivered by our specialist subsidiary laboratories, with a particular focus on the UK and Irish markets.
The role will involve winning new clients and developing commercial relationships across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical-device, cosmetics, agrochemical, chemical and other regulated industries.
You will identify prospective clients, understand their scientific, testing and regulatory requirements, and work closely with our subsidiary laboratory teams to develop appropriate studies, proposals and technical solutions. You will then manage opportunities through the sales process and convert them into sustainable, long-term commercial relationships.
Initial areas of focus will include extractables and leachables, chemical characterisation, in-vitro toxicology and analytical testing. You will also identify opportunities to cross-sell the Group’s wider portfolio of laboratory testing, scientific and regulatory services.
This Dublin-based hybrid role will work closely with our UK team and contribute to the continued development of Scientific Holdings’ commercial presence across Ireland and the UK.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and develop new clients across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, cosmetics, agrochemical, crop-protection and chemical sectors.
- Build and manage a structured pipeline of qualified new-business opportunities.
- Develop relationships with technical, regulatory, procurement and senior decision-makers.
- Proactively generate opportunities through direct outreach, industry networks, referrals and conferences.
- Understand client development programmes and identify opportunities before formal RFQs or tenders.
- Manage opportunities from initial engagement through qualification, proposal, negotiation and contract award.
- Work with Scientific Holdings' technical teams to translate client requirements into appropriate studies and proposals.
- Prepare and coordinate scopes of work, quotations, presentations and responses to RFPs.
- Develop initial projects into longer-term, multi-service client relationships.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across the Group.
- Provide market intelligence on clients, competitors, outsourcing trends and opportunities for new services.
- Maintain accurate pipeline, forecasting and commercial activity information.

The role will support commercial development across areas including:

Candidate profile
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
- A degree in chemistry, toxicology, pharmaceutical science, biomedical science, biotechnology or another relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in scientific services, laboratory testing, CRO/CDMO, pharmaceutical, medical device, toxicology or a related regulated industry.
- Demonstrable experience in business development, technical sales, account development or a strongly client-facing scientific role.
- A track record of developing new accounts rather than solely managing established customers.
- The ability to understand complex technical information and translate it into a commercial proposition.
- Confidence engaging with scientists, regulatory professionals, procurement teams and senior management.
- Strong commercial judgement and negotiation skills.
Experience in extractables & leachables, toxicology, analytical chemistry, medical-device testing, pharmaceutical development, agrochemical/crop-protection testing, OECD/GLP studies or contract laboratory services would be particularly valuable.
Existing relationships within relevant pharmaceutical, medical-device, cosmetics, agrochemical or scientific-outsourcing markets would be an advantage.
